  • Once upon a time...

    Mike blogged.

(It's gonna be a long one)

So I am at home sick today.  I'm not terribly sick, but I know if I go to work its not going to help me get better.  And since I am getting married (IN 29 DAYS!!!!) I don't want a hint of it in me or Hannah.  You know, 'cause people who are fond of each other tend to get sick around the same time.  Not sure I like the use of the word 'fond' there, but I'm going to leave it.  (that was a JT-ism, that last sentence there.  So is this parenthetical I guess.  And the more I type, the more of a plagiarist I feel.)

I just spell checked because I didn't know how to spell plagiarist and you know what other word it grabbed? - "blogged" - Wouldn't Xanga know better?

Where was I?  I guess i am giving everyone an update on my life the last several months.  I feel like I have been out of touch with people.  I think my last few posts said that, too.  Anyway, Hannah and I found a townhouse in Colorado Springs.  It's pretty exciting to have these kinds of things fall into place.  It's not that often you get married.  The landlord is in the army and I wouldn't be surprised if more than half of our townhouse community is in the military.  Not that that is a bad thing, it may make for an awkward conversation if they find out I don't care for their profession of choice.  Does that make me a bad person?

Whenever I get into debates about pacifism, the other side always ultimately says in one form or another, "The world doesn't work that way."  What I hear is "The world doesn't work the Christian way."  By that I mean the world generally isn't loving and its too big of a hassle for people to bother to fix problems outside of violence.  (Not that, if you're a Christian, you have to be a pacifist, although that's my interpretation of scripture.)  Does that make sense?  Didn't Christ call us to do radical things?  When Christ fellowshipped with tax collectors, prostitutes, and the like, didn't others tell him, "The world doesn't work that way."

Yes I am thankful for my freedom.  But prove to me I wouldn't be free if we didn't have a Military trained to kill and threaten.  You can cite other countries where human rights are stepped on, but I'd bet that country had a military when it was "peaceful."  Maybe their military wasn't big enough.  What is big enough?  9/11 should have proved to the world no military is big enough.  The mind is a powerful thing, and when used wrong, people plan things like 9/11.  When used right, couldn't the opposite happen?  I doubt 9/11 was planned overnight and I doubt a peaceful world will happen overnight.  We've lost our patience.

    Damn microwave.

    Off soap box.

That was a tangent I didn't plan on writing.  So Hannah and I found a townhouse in Colorado Springs!  Its a great place with a little back yard for Cutler.  Wood burning fireplace - I can't wait for winter just to use it.  The landlord is painting it for us, too!  And we get to pick the color.  Our landlord is pretty cool, even though she is in the military.  She's a part of the space program.  I saw her patch on her hat.  Speaking of space...some guy in Denver wants the city to have a plan for an alien encounter.  Forget the why.  How the heck do you plan for that?  And on that note, the Vatican's astronomer made a statement that believing in extra terrestrial life is not a sin.  In fact, they said it limits God's abilities to say there isn't the possibility of ET.  How is that Okay and birth control is not.  No offense to Catholics, I just don't understand the logic.

So Hannah and I found a townhouse!  I want to move in tomorrow.  It feels like their are so man things to do before the wedding.  But they are just a bunch of small things.  It's not like we have to find a ceremony site.  We would elope if that were the case.  You know what else is exciting?  JT, Jay, Daniel, Allen and Jake are going to be at the wedding.  Thats our room from junior and senior year.  It makes me excited.  I get to finally meet Daniel's and Jay's significant other.  Its just going to be fun to see everyone again.

    29 MORE DAYS!!!

  • So much to look forward to!

First off, allow me to confess out in the open:  I am addicted to Iced Tea.

    That feels better.

So its been almost three months.  It seems a lot of my recent posts start off stating how long its been since the last one.

It is now less than 6 months until Hannah and I are Mr. and Mrs.  That's pretty incredible.  Its been fun planning the honeymoon and I finally nailed it down to where we are going.  Its a surprise for her for those of you who don't already know that.  There was a place I really wanted to go but its too expensive and would land us living with one of the 'rents when we got back.  Ix-nay.  I'm looking forward to registering, for all the obvious reasons.  If you are the one to actually get the big screen tv on the list, have I got something for you!  And looking for a place to live is going to be exciting.  I'm sure it will be frustrating sometimes, but I don't care.

Cutler is finally calming down and starting to resemble a dog instead of Hammy from "Over the Hedge."  He learned how to lay own in one hour and a bag of popcorn.

Ya...thanks to Hannah, I am excited about the future.

  • sorry....

To those of you who still read this...I'm sorry I havent been in contact with pretty much any of my friends in denver or really anywhere.  i feel like I've lost touch with so many people and i really dont like it.  Its so hard to live in the springs and have 95% of your friends an hour away, especially hannah.

i miss you all and hope i can see you soon.

  • Whoa!

Quick story.  I've mentioned before that Cutler isn't allowed in the house any more.  We have to tie him up during the day so he doesn't run away after everything that interests him.  But at night we let him run free.  So every night before I go to bed I let him in the garage to sleep.  Well tonight he was being stubborn.  So I got the flashlight and went outside looking for him.  Which is kinda spooky.  If you've been to my house you'd know.  I heard rustling so I walked toward it.  (this is when we yell in the theatre not to go that way, but turn back)  It was cutler but he had something in his mouth.  As I got closer I heard the thing in his mouth making noise.  It was squeaking.

My dog caught a bat.  not found a dead bat, but caught a live one.  I thought this was crazy, he had to have found it on the ground almost dead.  So then he proceeded to prance around the field trying to avoid me in this game of his.  Every now and then he would drop it and would have to sniff around to find it again.  I would run at him when this happened to try and get his attention off of it.  And thats when he turned and freakin' snatched another bat out of the air.  It was nuts.  So I darted at him again after he playfully dropped it and this time I got to him in time.  Even as I had him by his collar on the way back to the house he was lunging in the air at hings I couldnt see, let alone even hear.

    I have a cool dog.

    Refreshment

Today has been a pretty good day.

I am building a landscape display at work and it is finally beginning to take shape.  Retaining walls are draining, but rewarding.  I tackled my bills and piles of mail on my desk.

And I bought my fantasy magazines.  The draft is about two weeks away and I am so very happy.

I have the coolest fiancee in the world.

I cant wait to go to Chicago.

    Pray for my Mom.

And pray for cutler to stop pissing and crapping in the house.  He has been banned from the house as long as its above 32 degrees.  We just shampooed our carpet in the entire house and what does he do?  Goes on a long walk in which he has plenty of time to do his deeds, (and he did them well) only to come back in and mess up the carpet 5 minutes later.  So if anyone has an idea of how to help this, please tell me.  And when he is excited, like when we come home from work or he sees hannah, he pees.  he loses control entirely.  And when I catch him making the carpet smell, he freaks out and pees some more.  WHY!!!

    to all a good night.
